In the first three quarters of 2011, Vogel worked with 60 clients who paid a total of nearly $8.2 million. The top-paying client was Technology CEO Council, for which Vogel lobbied on Research &Development funding and tax credits, technology issues, tax policy, and trade agreements with Korea, Colombia, and Panama. Vogel is a longtime friend with the firm’s cofounder, Bruce Mehlman; the pair met as attorneys in D.C. before Mehlman worked for the House Republican Conference under former GOP representative J.C. Watts of Oklahoma and then as an assistant secretary of Commerce under President George W. Bush. David Catagnetti, a long-time Democratic political strategist who helped advise John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign and had served as chief of staff to Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., joined the firm later. The firm also employs Colette Desmarais, a former Republican health policy adviser for the Senate Committee on Finance, who brought in nearly $8.3 million in the first three quarters of 2011.
